Our Story

The Short (which is actually a bit long...lol):   My name is Amy. I'm a 29 year old who dreams of one day having a child of my own. I began dating Mike on June 27th of 2000 and we were married on May 27th 2006. We have been trying to conceive, unsuccessfully, since December of 2009 for our first child.

In December of 2010, I was diagnosed with late ovulation and a Luteal Phase defect, both of which can be effectively treated with medication. However, Mike was diagnosed with Male Factor Infertility, a disease that is not easily treated.  We were given less than a 1% chance of conceiving naturally and were advised that In Vitro Fertilization with Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection would be our only possible option of conceiving a biological child.

In February of 2010, Mike began taking Clomid in hopes of improving his sperm count and in April of 2011, Mike underwent Varicocele Surgery. In October of 2011 we conceived our first child. Sadly, we miscarried 6 short weeks later.

After Mike's surgery in April of 2011 until April of 2012 his sperm count improved from 1.5 million to 8 million with 30% motility. The count was still low, but placed us in a category that we once thought was impossible, Intrauterine Insemination.

In April of 2012 we attempted our first IUI which ended before it began due to low follicle production. In May of 2012 we changed fertility medications and attempted our second unsuccessful, IUI. In June of 2012, we up'ed the medication and completed our third and final unsuccessful IUI.

We are currently back to square one, saving for IVF w/ICSI which unfortunately insurance does not cover. Our first try at IVF will cost approximately $12,000 and yield us a 50-60% chance of conception. Much like the 5 stages of grief, we have had our fair share of ups and downs during our battle with infertility. I created this blog in an effort to share our story with others in hopes of both providing comfort and understanding.
